XII International Toy Library Conference: “The Toy Library Nowadays”
II International Meeting Of Toy Library Researchers
The Brazilian Toy Libraries Association (ABBri), affiliated with International Toy Libraries (ITLA), brings for the first time this event to America, now in its 12th. Edition, having already been performed in Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia, once every three years. From the observation that the concept of a toy library and its implementation has been going through a continuous transformation, this Congress proposes to offer conditions for a broad reflection on the trajectory of the toy libraries, analysing all that has been made, their accomplishments, challenges and difficulties, on an international level in order to preserve its genuine contribution to the dissemination of the importance of play.
Different ways to understand and implement a playroom are ongoing. Environments diversify and multiply. Toy libraries humanize the hospital environment, promote adherence to treatment and also provide support to the families. The school rediscovers the joy of playing and its immense contribution to learning and motivation in pursuit of knowledge. The appreciation of the toy libraries by Universities is increasing. Games are reaching the corporate field, providing evidence of their aggregating and heuristic potential. The role of the toy library lies in proportion to the advances in human and biological sciences which confirm the importance of play for development, preservation and recuperation capacities, as well as physical, psychological and social skills.
These changes are accentuated with the insertion of the toy library into the digital environment. The use of information technology in the day-to-day of the toy libraries, in their various categories, with its risky and protective factors at different ages and in different environments, requires a broad discussion, with the participation of professionals and academics of Education, Health, Communication and others, with the presentation of results on investigations and reports of experiences in different countries and continents. In a complementary way, this conference emphasizes the importance of using the digital network as a means of communication and updating between the various national toy library associations, and between them and the International Toy Libraries Association, ITLA, as well as between regional toy libraries, researchers, etc., in newsletters and websites.
It further emphasizes the need for discussion on the formation of the toy librarian, which requires nowadays a special supplement on the different environments where they will be working (school, hospital, company, etc.).
This congress, organized by ABBri, provides the continuation of the prior ones and is according to ITLA’s guidelines.
